Executive Director for Teaching & Learning

After receiving his Bachelor of Science from Northern Arizona University (NAU) in 1999, Tony Camp began his teaching career with the Phoenix Union High School District.  He started as a Science teacher at Metro Tech High School where he taught Biology, Anatomy, Physics, and Chemistry over the course of seven years.

Camp later earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from NAU and became a Phoenix Union administrator in 2005. For seven years, he held various assistant principal positions in the district, receiving the Administrator of the Year award in 2009.

In 2013, Camp became the Director for Career & Technical Education, Magnets, and Innovative Programs. While overseeing the district’s 34 CTE and 11 Magnet programs, he oversaw Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement opportunities.  In addition, he also facilitated the instructional design team that successfully launched the Phoenix Coding Academy, a school designed around industry demands.

Camp advanced in his administrative career as the Principal of Trevor Browne High School in 2016, where he successfully increased the College & Career Readiness Index (CCRI) scores during his tenure.  After three years of leading a school with over 3,000 students and 250 employees, he became the Director of Portfolio Management, a new department in the district that focuses on developing a stronger portfolio of schools, career academies, and college pathways.

Camp has served on Phoenix Union’s Executive team since January of 2020 as the Executive Director for Teaching & Learning, overseeing curriculum, instruction, professional development, and special education services. The two most important aspects of his life are his family and the learners that he serves every day.
