High School Health and Wellness
To ensure that school-based prevention programs and behavioral health screening services are accessible to all Arizona students, the Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith, and Family (GOYFF) established the High School Health and Wellness program. The GOYFF offers some $3.5 million through the Substance Abuse Prevention Block Grant (SAPBG) to High Schools that provide selected schools evidence-based drug prevention programs; screening and assessment of behavioral health and substance abuse; after school opportunities for more healthy youth engagement; and annual back to school night drug education for families and faculties.
Goals
#1 Increase youth awareness of risk/harm of underage drinking, marijuana use, and misuse and abuse of prescription medication.
#2 Improve interpersonal relationships and increasing school safety by creating a healthy school climate.
# 3 Promote resistance strategies to reduce underage drinking, marijuana use, and misuse and abuse of prescription medication among high school youth.
