AHS’s Athletic and Activities Mission: AHS will provide a robust athletic and activities program that will afford its students challenging opportunities to grow and develop through athletic competitions and club activities where life-long skills of discipline, hard work, team building, and perseverance can be mastered. We look forward to the wonderful opportunities for students, teachers, coaches, and parents to interact on our campus in sport and activities that build camaraderie and positive campus moral that will enhance teaching and learning. As the Athletic Director, I pledge to work tirelessly and endlessly to build Connectedness and Student Opportunities that will involve our students’ in high levels of competition, team and character building, health and wellness, and community-engagement. Now for a little bit about Dr. Truvillion~

 

Dr. Truvillion, also known as “Dr. T”  was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. An athlete throughout my younger life afforded me a full athletic scholarship to run track at the "track capital of the world" - Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She was a 6 time All-American and 2-time NCAA Champion. Concluding her athletic career in 1987, she wasn't finished with athletics, so she became the track coach at Georgia Tech at 22 years old. She was one of the youngest coaches in collegiate history at the time. Coached at GT for 7 years and then had an “out of body experience” and moved to The Penn State University to coach track (and teach fitness and weight training classes) for two more years.

From college coaching and personal training she moved onto the education field  from 1999-2006 where she  became an elementary PE teacher and Academic Discipline Specialist (ISS) and a high school track coach in Cobb County school district for 8 years. In 2007, she relocated to Phoenix to be with the rest of my family, where she began her PXU career at Maryvale HS for 8 years as the Assistant Principal for Student Opportunities (6 years), for Registration (1 year) and for Student Success (1 year). In 2015, I became (again) the Athletic Director at Alhambra HS.  

Dr. Truvillion brings with her to PXU a vast administrative background and experience level complimented by an impressive educational resume that includes degrees from Louisiana State University (BGS), Georgia State University (M. Ed. ), Lincoln Memorial University (Ed. S.), and Argosy University (Ed. D.). She also holds Superintendent, Principal, and Secondary Education Certifications (Health and Physical Education). She completed her doctorate degree from Argosy University of Atlanta in 2008, and then aspired to teach at the college level where, since 2013, has also been an adjunct professor at Grand Canyon University where she teaches graduate level courses in the College of Education.

Equally impressive is Dr. Truvillion is widely recognized internationally having coached a number of Pan Am, USA Junior and World Junior and Senior-level national teams around the world since 1991 for USA Track and Field (USATF). An active speaker and advocate for women's Track, Dr. Truvillion presently serves as the USATF Women’s Track and Field Vice Chair, the USA Rep for the World Athletics Coaches Commission and as the Vice Chair for the USATF Women’s Commission. Truvillion has many state and world-wide track and field accolades and most recently was the moderator for the first World Athletics Coaches Matter Virtual Forum.
