• UPDATE - 3:35 pm -

    Parents and Community,

Thank you for your trust today as Central High School administration worked with local law enforcement to ensure that every student and staff member remained safe at all times today. There were no injuries today at Central.

At lunch today, at approximately 12:10PM, one student-to-student altercation led to more disruptions. There were rumors of a firearm and even shots being fired which resulted in the school being placed on lockdown. Because of the alleged presence of a firearm and even shots being fired, Phoenix Police and Phoenix Fire began to use their active shooter procedures, out of an abundance of caution. Once law enforcement officials arrived, they took control and authority of campus safety.

Although there was no active shooter situation, part of the typical procedures require a search of every part of the campus – classrooms, bathrooms, hallways, and common areas. Every area was searched and determined to be safe.

Phoenix Police asked us to begin a parent pick-up process at Steele Indian School Park. Parents were directed to the Park to meet up with their students. Phoenix Union administration assisted with water, food, shade, and transportation, as needed, to ensure the smoothest possible reunification process.

A meeting for Central High School and Phoenix Coding Academy families will be held tomorrow morning at 10:00AM in the Central High School auditorium to discuss today’s events and the future of campus safety. Central and Phoenix Union administration will address any questions, concerns, or recommendations.
