Ever since I can remember I have always had a passion for learning and teaching. In grade school I was always on the honor role and I remember tutoring my peers in reading. However, I do understand what it is like to face challenges as a student that you have no control over. Having grown up in a single parent household in a low income community I have been exposed to many challenges that youth from low income areas face every day. Because of this, I have developed a passion for teaching students and I believe that every student brings value to the classroom.
I passionately believe that every student can contribute to the learning environment--no matter their educational backgrounds or socioeconomic status. Throughout my education at Arizona State University I have had many educators that have emphasized culturally responsive teaching and as a result I have developed a philosophy that revolves around including the students’ funds of knowledge into the learning process.
