I have been teaching in Phoenix AZ since the 2006-2007 school year. I taught in a middle school for the first three years and have been at Camelback HS since. I am originally from Portland, Oregon, that is where I completed all my education. People often ask why I moved here, I tell them "it rains from Halloween till May or June in Portland. I am all about the sun now."

I teach in an inclusion class, that means there are 2 teachers in the room! More teacher time for students. Not only that, but students can get signed out to see either one of us for Advisory to get help on their homework. Studnets also like to come in during Advisory to work together on their homework and use the calculators we have in class.

The Algebra 1-2 team implemented Common Core in the 2012-2013 school year. At this point there is no textbook for the Algebra 1-2 classes. Students are graded by standard on all tests. They have an opportunity to make up any test standard they have failed, or just want a better grade on, by attending after school tutoring provided by the Algebra 1-2 teachers. Tutoring is Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15 to 4:15pm.

Homework is due every Friday. If homework is not complete or not turned in the student receives detention that day from 3:10 to 3:40pm. It is very important students complete their homework. Students who do homework do better on the tests.

Homework/ Independent work is 30% of the grade, tests are 70% of the grade. I tell me students "You can't pass the test if you don't do the homework, just like you can't win the game if you don't practice."
