    WELCOME TO ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE
     

    Environmental Science 1-2 Meets PUHSD and Arizona Science Standards graduation requirement of PUHSD and the science laboratory admission requirements of Arizona universities. Environmental Science 1-2 is a laboratory science course designed to explore the interrelationship of humanity on the local and global environment. Emphasis is on helping the student make decisions based on facts about our ability to live in harmony with the environment. This course is activity-oriented and includes such topics as ecological relationships, use and consumption of our natural resources, energy and problems resulting from population growth pollution and global change and sustainability.

     
    MATERIALS REQUIRED:   
    All students are expected to come to class prepared to learn.Students are required to have; pen/pencil, colored pencils or markers, paper,and a three ring notebook with dividers.A classroom set of text books will be available for student use during classroom time. Students may access the online version of the textbook to utilize at home at by clicking on the "Online Textbook & Student Vue" tab on the left hand side of this website and following the instructions on that page.
     
    GRADING SYSTEM: 

    StudentVue/ParentVue can be accessed through the Cesar Chavez High School homepage. Returning students will have the same password as last year and new students will receive their password during advisory class within the first two weeks of school. Parents may obtain their passwords by contacting the registration office. Through the use of StudentVue/ParentVue, students and parents can find electronic copies of many of the class and homework assignments attached in the grade book. If a student is missing an assignment, they may print it directly from here and turn it in for late credit. Additional information and resources for the class can be accessed at the teacher’s webpage on the Cesar Chavez High School website. Accommodations and modifications will be included per IEP and 504 plans.  

    Students who cheat will receive no credit and will not be allowed to make up the work. 

     

     

     
    TITLE I PROGRAM:
     
     
    Academic tutoring and test preparation is available to all students. Additional support for passing classes and graduating on time is the intent of these services.  Support through Title I funding is available in the areas of: math, reading and English. If interested, please contact the Principal, Mr. Georgia or Assistant Principal for Instruction, Mr. Grant, for additional information at 602-764-4000.
     
    MAKE-UP POLICY: 
    All work is expected to be turned in on time. The student is given one day for every day absent to make up the work, this starts upon the student’s return to class. It is the student’s responsibility to meet with the teacher the day he/she returns to get his/her missing work. Any pre-assigned work that was due on the day of the absence is due immediately upon the student’s return. Late work may be turned in for up to 50% credit and is due on the “late date” indicated by the teacher. Late work will not be accepted after the posted late date. Students may also seek assistance Monday-Friday during the Advisory period in room 7024. In addition, you may contact me by email at rutan@phoenixunion.org.
     
    ATTENDANCE POLICY: 
    "Absent is defined as nonattendance in an assigned class or activity for more than one-half of the period. (PUHSD Governing Board Policy J-1561)  Student success depends upon daily attendance; please help your child be at school on time and prepared for class.
    To report absences call the ATTENDANCE HOTLINE NUMBER:602-440-1600 Note: Students may fail the class for the semester in any course, when reaching a total of 12 excused/unexcused absences and after school-documented interventions have been exhausted.

    TARDY POLICY: 

    “Tardy” is defined as not being in the assigned class or activity when the tardy bell has finished ringing. (PUHSD Governing Board PolicyJ-1561 JHR) 

    Students are expected to be in their seats and ready to work WHEN the tardy bell rings. Students who arrive to class late may not complete daily bell work and/or quizzes which will result in a loss of class points. Frequent tardies will result in detention, parent contact, and/or a referral to the Dean of Students.
