Welcome parents and guardians,

Mrs. Spivey-Mitchell has been instructing dance for 25 years this year; from ages 3-67, within elementary and secondary schools, rec centers, private studios and at Radford University and Virginia Tech. She was a professional tap dancer for 11 years before moving to Arizona. She is a West Virginia native and has been studying the art of dance her entire life. Mrs. Spivey-Mitchell has been a professional in both fields of study, teaching Biology/Ecology/Horticulture as well as dance. She was a toxicology specialist within a biological bioassay lab and microbiologist for a private environmental consulting firm while in Virginia. Her dance background includes Ballet (French and Vaganova), Jazz, Tap, Graham Modern, Lyrical, Contemporary, African and Afrocentric, Swing, Ballroom, Yoga and Pilates certification, Partnering, Pointe ,Choreography and Improv, Dance History and Philosophy, Dance Production, International Baccalaureate, Dance Kinesiology and Dance Anatomy and Physiology. She currently sponsors the dance club on campus (which is open to all students), runs the 44th Chapter of the NHSDA (National Honors Society for Dance Arts), is an active member of the AzDEO-NHSDA committee member, NDEO, Arizona Dance Alliance and teaches tap in Phoenix in the evenings. She also includes community service as part of her curriculum and takes students on many fieldtrips to Scottsdale, Phoenix and Chandler. Mrs. Spivey-Mitchell also over sees program fundraising, brings in guest choreographers, hires seamstresses for custom costuming design and construction for FHS Dance, and hires a professional photographer and videographer for each semester performance. She enjoys music, reading, quilting, hiking, and taking care of her 10 cats.
For all students to be successful, it is very important for parental support. I look forward to teaching your student this school year. Please feel free to contact me at anytime.
