Spread Love, Not COVID: Community Edition
Phoenix Union High School District (PXU) and partners have administered over 40,000 COVID vaccines to the community since January.
Phoenix Union is pleased to offer the Pediatric Pfizer Vaccine for children aged 5 to 11 at all of our clinics. In addition to this, Pfizer and Moderna have been granted FDA authorization for their COVID-19 booster dose to be administered at least six months after the second vaccine in the series of two. Johnson & Johnson recipients have also been authorized to receive a booster dose of either Pfizer or Moderna if they received their first dose two or more months ago. Anyone over the age of 18 who meets the criteria for a booster shot (6 months from 2nd Pfizer/Moderna shot, 2 months from Johnson & Johnson) is eligible for a booster shot at any of our vaccination events.
All of our schools are currently offer all three brands on their designated days. Carl Hayden Community High School also has three brands every Saturday thru December 11. Comprehensive schools will continue their weekly rotations through mid-December.
PXU would like to thank Albertsons/Safeway Pharmacies, Maricopa County Department of Public Health, and Lyft for their ongoing support and partnership. Please see below for locations and hours of operation.
Phoenix Union, Elementary Districts, and Partners To Provide Pediatric Pfizer Vaccine
In partnership with the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, Albertsons Pharmacies, and others, has administered over 37,000 COVID-19 vaccines to the community since January. The District recently celebrated a milestone as 83% of its employees are fully vaccinated. This number, coupled with nearly 10,000 students showing vaccination proof, has led PXU to provide expanded opportunities to get to the vaccine. More details about community events can be found at www.PXU.org/BeHealthy.
This week, Pfizer received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for ages 5 to 11. Pending final approval from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) early next week, Phoenix Union, our partner elementary districts, and other partners will begin to administer the pediatric Pfizer formula on Saturday, November 6.
“Working in collaboration with our partner elementary leaders, the County, and local pharmacies, we will provide our city with easy access to the pediatric COVID vaccine,” PXU Superintendent Dr. Chad Gestson said. “We remain true to our commitment to the health and safety of our staff, students, families, and the broader community. The vaccine is safe, effective, and our best hope for mitigating the spread of the virus.”
On November 6 and December 4, six schools will offer the pediatric Pfizer vaccine for children ages 5 to 11. New vaccination events at other elementary districts will be announced soon. The Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson initial and booster doses are available for those eligible at every event. Appointments are not required.
Members of the community are encouraged to call (602) 764-1500 if they have questions or need free transportation to and from vaccination events.
