Phoenix Union (PXU) is pleased to announce financial incentives for staff and students who receive the COVID-19 vaccine. The District’s Vax to the Max campaign will provide $100 gift cards to fully vaccinated students and a one-time payout of $200 to staff who provide a copy of their valid vaccination card. The campaign will run through at least the end of the semester for students and ended on Monday, October 11 for staff, with a goal of all staff and students reaching the 85% vaccination threshold typically needed to achieve herd immunity.

“PXU remains committed to keeping our schools open by providing safe learning environments for our staff and students,” Superintendent Dr. Chad Gestson said. “Vaccines remain our greatest opportunity to ensure uninterrupted in-person learning this year. Slowing the spread and ending this pandemic will take a collective effort and commitment to not just personal health but public health.”

    Staff Campaign

Our original Vax to the Max challenge for staff was a $200 incentive if we reached an 85% vaccination rate by November 1. We are currently very close to 85% vaccination rate among staff district-wide. Our Governing Board approved a few different items at the November 4 meeting. First, all employees who have uploaded their completed vaccination card to iVisions will receive the $200 payment on December 7th. The deadline for uploading vaccination cards to receive the payment on December 7 was on November 15. If employees still wish to participate and receive an incentive, a second deadline was approved for January 4, 2022. Employees who upload their card to iVisions between November 15 and January 4 will receive their incentive in late January or early February.

For our small school and large school who reached 85% first, Bioscience and Maryvale, employees will receive an extra $50. Each site that met or exceeded the 85% goal will receive a special whole-school prize. More details to come soon.

Finally, the PXU Medical Benefits Trust Board has agreed to match the staff financial incentive by providing an additional $200 to each eligible staff member in the respective paychecks noted above. For more information on vaccination opportunities, visit PXU.org/BeHealthy

    Student Campaign

Since Vax to the Max launched, PXU has provided over 10,000 $100 gift cards to students who have shown proof that they are fully vaccinated. We have extended the deadline to receive the $100 gift card until at least the end of the semester due to rapidly changing regulations and requests from parents. Each fully vaccinated student will receive a $100 gift card when they provide proof of their valid vaccination card. Schools will track their students’ progress, and the first large and small campuses to achieve the 85% target will each receive a school-wide prize.

All gift cards and incentives are funded by federal stimulus dollars provided to districts for this purpose and will not include funding from the state or local tax base.

Phoenix Union continues to lead the COVID vaccination and testing efforts in the valley by providing campus clinics on a weekly rotational basis. Carl Hayden Community High School will offer vaccinations every Saturday until December 11. All information related to the vaccine and our testing efforts can be found at www.PXU.org/BeHealthy.
