Ryan Straight:    XC scholarship   Scottsdale CC   Cross country has done many things for me.The best thing it has done for me was give me a group of brothers that to thisday I still am close with. It also gave me a mental toughness where I canapproach just about anything and I know I can do it no matter how difficult itis, especially with my college classes. I recommend the great coach PaulBonnett, I learned a lot for him not only about running but about life. He alsoshows his Passion for running which rubbed off on the team and made us want tocome to practice because it was fun not because we had too. I also recommendgoing to Friday practices for fox and hound runs or a game of ultimate Frisbee...if you don't know now you know! After high school I went to Gateway CC for ayear and ran their. After that year I transferred to Scottsdale CC and ran ayear there. I am currently enrolled in my last semester at Scottsdale where Iwill transfer to ASU and pursue my degree in Kinesiology. And a lot of what Iam doing now is thanks to Coach Bonnett and Cross Countryn do it no matte how difficult it is,especially with my college classes. John Hunting:   NavalAcademy  As for CrossCountry, it’s been one of the most important parts of my development as a man.It taught me about perseverance and mental fortitude, these are qualities thatwould be important anyplace but especially so in the military. The leadership Igot and learned on the team, along with my time as a scout was the best I got.Not just because both gave my good opportunities to lead and good examples tofollow but because it was leadership in difficult situations. They teach usleadership here while we sit in an air conditioned class our nicely ironeduniforms, but that does not matter. What matters how you will perform while youare wheezing and covered in sweat, that’s what cross country taught me. Irecommend cross country for any one because it is not about how you perform atyour best, but how you can perform at your worst, when the cards are down andyou are finishing a race and you are hurting, will you kick in that last mileand pass some guys or are you going slow down and let people catch you; that’swhat cross country did for me."
