Hello, Chávez community! I’m Kathleen Vickers (Kimura), and this is my twelvth year at Chávez. As of this year, I have a total of 25 years experience at Chávez and four other high schools in Arizona (Centennial, Maryvale, North and Cactus). Most of that time, I have taught Spanish, but I am highly qualified by the state of Arizona to teach high school English, Spanish, and English as a Second Language. All three of these disciplines of language arts intrigue me. I also have the pleasure of being an experienced AVID teacher, the World Languages Instructional Leader, and co-chair for our site teacher's association.
I graduated from Tolleson Union High School, attended Glendale Community College, did my undergraduate work at Arizona State University (Go Devils!), and have finished a master’s degree in Multicultural Education from Northern Arizona University as well as a master's from Grand Canyon University in Educational Leadership.
I’ve lived in Arizona all of my life, so even though I am not Hispanic, I have had lots of opportunity to be in contact with native speakers of Spanish. I love the people and culture.
I am delighted to devote my abilities to the Chávez community where I endeavor to make meaningful connections and contributions.
