Academic Decathlon
Academic Decathlon is a class that serves two needs. First, Academic Decathlon is a competition at the district, regional, state and national level. The competition entails detailed tests on language and literature, economics, music, art, history, mathematics, science, essay, speech, and interview. Second, and perhaps more importantly, Academic Decathlon serves as a vehicle with which to better prepare students for the university. The rigor, the test taking, the prodigious reading, interview and public speaking skills are all designed to better prepare our students for a career and university education in the twenty first century.
As a school, Cesar Chavez’ Academic Decathlon team won the district championship in 2008, 2009, and 2010. Cesar Chavez won the regional championship in 2009 and 2010. We are currently among the top ten teams in the state and have been to state championships the last five years.
