ASCA Model

  • Beginning in the 23-24 school year, our team of six school counselors began the process of becoming a National Model School with the American School Counseling Association (ASCA). We have been spending time managing our programming, assessing our best practices and delivering content and programming related to college, career and the social/emotional domains.

    Our responsibilities include:

    • Proactive and data driven; impact measured via achievement, attendance and behavior data
    • Provide academic, college/career and social/emotional support for Metro Tech students 
    • Orientation, coordination and academic advising for all students over their 4 years of attendance 
    • Provide counseling to students who face barriers to school success (absences, disciplinary, etc.) 
    • Consult with teachers to schedule and present school counseling curriculum for all grades based on the development and goals (post high school planning) of students 
    • Utilize community organizations to support our students post-secondary plans and goals 
    • Collaborate with educators, parents, and the community to support student achievement 
    • Analyze grade point averages in relation to achievement, use this data to drive supports 
    • Use the national model, ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors for student success as an anchor in all we do 
    • Advocate for students at individual education plan and 504 meetings, student study and I-Teams 
    • Develop, manage and evaluate a comprehensive school counseling program that is for ALL students 
    • Maintain a high level of ethics related to student issues of confidentiality, records maintenance, duty of care, equitable access to programs/courses, treat all students with dignity and respect, etc.
