Do students have to pick education as a major in college after attending Phoenix Educator Preparatory?
Although we hope students stay actively engaged with PXU after graduation to take advantage of the full experience and to double major in college, they may decide to go into creative careers, political science, social services, nursing, or other fields. Our school will get them ready for whatever path they choose to follow.

Do students have to be really smart or gifted to do well at Phoenix Educator Preparatory?
We believe that students who work hard and try are the ones who will thrive in our school. We do provide gifted services here for students who qualify, but students do not need to be gifted to do well here.

Do students have to have straight A’s to be accepted?
Not straight A’s, a pattern of commitment to and passion for learning is what we look for. We are looking for the right hearts and we will help grow and nurture the right skills.

How hard are the classes at Phoenix Educator Preparatory?
Our classes are honors level, AP (Advanced Placement) or dual enrollment except for Health and Freshmen Connection. Therefore, you can expect some rigorous content and lots of collaboration.

How much homework is there?
At our school, homework is used as an extra support when students are struggling in mastering the standards covered in class.

I heard that traditional grades are not used at Phoenix Educator Preparatory.
We turn the focus from—external motivation to get a certain grade—to internal motivation for learning and skill development. We use an Evidence-Based model, where students’ grades are based on their mastery of the model.

Will students be able to participate in sports?
Yes, students can participate in sports with their PXU-home school.

Will students be able to participate in clubs?
There will be many opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities (clubs, groups, community service) on our campus. Students are encouraged to start their own clubs as well.

How will I be notified if my student does not attend or is tardy to class?
Absence and tardy reports are generated through an automated system for all classes. It will call and leave a message on the phone number provided by the parent/guardian.

What transportation will be provided?
Students may receive a bus card pass, light rail pass, or they may use their own vehicle.

What technology do you have?
PXU is a one-to-one school district. Each student will be given a laptop to complete schoolwork during class and at home.

Will Phoenix Educator Preparatory students earn college credit?
Yes, earning college and/or internship credit is an option through dual enrollment and AP classes.

How will Phoenix Educator Preparatory prepare my child for college?
Students will work collaboratively and independently in different environments. In addition, students will give presentations, write research papers and work on a 4-year capstone project that tracks self-development alongside evidence of learning and career exploration/experiences. Students will have the opportunity to be leaders on campus and outside of campus through Communities of Practice membership, which includes: mentorship from college students and community partners, career exploration, observations/shadowing opportunities, investigating self-selected problems/curiosities, community service, and academic internships aligned to chosen career paths.

What is an Internship?
An internship is a formal program to provide practical experience in an occupation or profession which may be paid or unpaid. Students will earn high school credit and will have the opportunity to engage in learning experiences within and outside of the walls of our physical high school campus.

Where do Phoenix Educator Preparatory students come from?
As an open enrollment school, we project having students from all over the valley apply to be part of the first graduating class at our school.

What are my odds of being accepted to Phoenix Educator Preparatory?
If you meet the criteria listed in the application, and your application is complete and on time, your odds may be very good. We will accept 100 qualified ninth graders. If we receive more qualified applicants than we have room for, we will use a waiting list and will consider future applicants on a first come, first served basis for any future enrollment openings.

Where is Phoenix Educator Preparatory going to be located?
For our first two years, we will be housed within Alhambra High School, at 3839 W Camelback Rd., in our own building. During these two years, we will be in the process of constructing a brand new building for our school on 37th Ave and Thomas.
