Lorenzo Cabrera, Franklin Principal
Lorenzo Cabrera joined Phoenix Union High School District as the Dean of Students at Alhambra High School from 2007-2008. From 2008-2011, Cabrera continued to serve the Alhambra community as an Assistant Principal for Registration and Assistant Principal for Student Opportunities. In the Fall of 2011, Mr. Cabrera was appointed Principal of Franklin Police and Fire High School where he continues to successfully lead the Franklin community. Under his leadership, Franklin became the first school in the district to receive an A letter grade. Franklin was also the first school in the district to be nationally recognized as a Blue Ribbon School. Moreover, he continues to lead Franklin to be one of the best schools in the nation, as recognized by US News and World Reports.
Before joining Phoenix Union, Cabrera served the Tolleson Union High School District from 2000-2007 in their alternative program. In 2002, he along with his colleagues were recognized by USA Today as one of the best teaching teams in America. In 2007, he transitioned to a Teacher on Assignment for La Joya Community High School and worked as the Credit Recovery Coordinator and assisted in the areas of athletics, instruction, discipline and summer school principal. Cabrera is proud of the work he has done with Tolleson as they continue to use the credit recovery program he created for La Joya and the district to help credit deficient students.
He is a native of Arizona and graduated from Agua Fria Union High School. He earned his Associate of Arts Degree from Estrella Mountain Community College. He then transferred to ASU West Campus where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education and majored in Social Studies. Thereafter, he received his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. He proudly shares his story of struggles, challenges and triumphs in hopes to impact and inspire his students and community to find their calling, passion and purpose.
