    Camelback High School

Ayan Ahmed is a Senior at Camelback High School who is originally from Ethiopia. She was unable to attend school when she lived in Ethiopia due to it being expensive in the area where she lived. She immigrated here to Arizona with her immediate family in 2013 and began her educational journey in the Balsz Elementary School District. Despite the challenges of immigrating to a new country, Ayan has been able to successfully navigate her education and embark on her high school journey at Camelback High School.

Ayan is the youngest of her siblings, and both of her older siblings graduated from Camelback High School. This was one of the reasons that she decided to attend Camelback. During her time at Camelback, Ayan has participated in Black History Club and Link Crew. Her favorite parts about the school are how helpful the teachers are and that there are a lot of clubs and sports for students to choose from. After she graduates, Ayan plans to attend Gateway Community College to study a major related to the medical field. After attending community college, she will continue her education at a university. It has been a long-time career goal of hers to work in the field of medicine, and she is glad that Gateway Community College has programs to help her meet her goal.

Ayan's Somali culture is very important to her identity. Some of the things she enjoys most about being Somali are the traditional clothing and food. She is also proud of her people's ability to unite and help one another. In her free time, Ayan likes to watch TikTok or Youtube, relax, dance, bake, journal, and spend time with her family.
