• Linda Abril Educational Academy: Israel Lucero

Israel LuceroIsrael Lucero, a Senior at Linda Abril Educational Academy, has had a journey full of perseverance and dedication toward his goal of graduating from high school. Israel was born in Phoenix and spent his childhood living both here in Phoenix and in Chihuahua, Mexico, where his parents are from. Around 2017, Israel had to leave school at Carl Hayden Community High School to go to Mexico and take care of his mother, who needed assistance due to her health. This caused him to miss 2 years of school. He returned to Arizona in 2020 and was met with the effects of the pandemic, which had an impact on his education. His educational journey has not been easy, but he did not give up on his goal of receiving his high school diploma.

Israel is proudly graduating with the Class of 2022 this May. After he graduates, he will be transitioning directly into the Army National Guard, where he hopes to be a 12N Horizontal Construction Engineer. This job requires the use of bulldozers or other heavy equipment to do construction projects. He has already been sworn into the National Guard and he is excited about this next chapter in his life. His career goal after the National Guard is to either be an Agricultural Technician working on a farm or work as an Architect. In his free time, he likes to play video games and play a variety of different guitars. He previously played cornet in a Banda de Guerra (a type of Marching Band) in Mexico and has also played the accordion.

When asked about his time at Linda Abril Educational Academy, he says "One of my favorite things about Linda Abril is the willingness of all teachers to help you with your classes. They take time out of their personal lives to make sure you understand and succeed." He is glad to have made it this far, telling himself, "Patience is a virtue of kings," as a reminder that his goals are attainable, no matter how long it takes to accomplish them.
