PXU Health, Wellness, and Safety
We hope 2022 is off to a positive start for your students and family. As we begin a new year and semester, we are, more than ever, committed to your health, wellness, and safety. To keep PXU thriving and to continue in-person learning, sports, and campus activities, we want to remind you of the commitments and services available to you in your community. Please partner with PXU by engaging in strong and supportive strategies in the following areas:
- On the first Saturday of every month, we host COVID vaccination and testing clinics for those needing Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, and booster shots. If you are not vaccinated, need another dose, or if it is time for your booster, we welcome you to take advantage of this free opportunity for any member of your family (5 and up). In addition, we continue to have COVID-19 testing available at all of our large high schools daily. Please utilize this service if you are not feeling well, believe you may have been exposed, or would like to know your status. We also continue to follow CDC guidance regarding masking.
- Equally as important as physical health is our emotional health. We know the pandemic has left many of our adolescents overwhelmed with feelings of grief, loss, anxiety, and fear, which can make it hard for your child to stay on track and focus on learning. If you feel your child needs additional support or help, please reach out to your child’s counselor or school administration for assistance. We are here to help and support you. Each campus has a team dedicated to the social and emotional well-being of our students, including counselors, social workers, student prevention/intervention specialists, etc. We also have partnerships with community agencies we can refer you to, depending on your needs. Please do not hesitate to get your child the help and support they might need during this challenging time so that they can thrive emotionally, connect to their campus and peers, and excel academically. The contact information for each of our schools is included at the end of this letter. Additionally, our 2021-2022 PXU Handbook for Student and Families offers great support resources for our students and families. You can access it by clicking this link: Click here to access the Handbook.
- We are committed to safe, orderly, and inviting campuses for all students. There is no place in PXU for hate, violence, threats, bullying, or physical assaults. PXU will not tolerate threats or violence, whether on-campus or on social media. We all have a role to play in fostering healthy and thriving campus environments. Attached, you will find our Resolution to the Safe Storage of Firearms adopted by our Governing Board. Please take a moment to read and acknowledge the commitment and take any necessary action in your own home. You may send the signed form in with your student to turn in to their Advisory teacher.
- We are excited to pick up our Redesigning School Safety Participatory Budgeting process to engage the PXU community in the final stages of proposal development and voting. We want to make sure that everyone has a chance to participate in this important work to reimagine and invest in safety at PXU. Sign up to be a PB leader by serving on our District Steering Committee or serve as a Change Agent by completing the sign-up form at https://bit.ly/PBleadersignupform. In partnership, we can continue to make all of our PXU schools safe and welcoming learning environments where all students can thrive.
