• Contact-Tracing Update (Staff)

Thank you for your continued commitment to the health and safety of our students and your colleagues. The recent surge in COVID-19 cases has tested our will while highlighting the vital work you do every day. We know you are tired, and we are doing everything we can to provide relief as we remain committed to our values and serving our students. iDays have provided much-needed relief, and we will continue to look for innovative ways to offer our staff and students additional opportunities moving forward.

As science and spread evolve, we must also align our mitigation practices to safely continue uninterrupted in-person learning. Therefore, we are taking steps to significantly improve the timeliness and effectiveness of contact tracing in PXU. Effective immediately, we will implement PXU Contact Tracing 2.0.

    Improved Contact-Tracing Practices

    Close Contact

    • Definition – Close contact with anyone within six feet for 15 minutes or longer within a 24-hour period where you or the other individual(s) were unmasked.
    • If you are in close contact with a positive individual and are unvaccinated, you will need to fill out the COVID Incident Staff Self Report Form and will be asked to isolate for five calendar days from the date of exposure.
    • If you are in close contact with a positive individual and you are boosted or have received the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine within the past six months or Johnson & Johnson in the past two months, you will stay at work, masked, and self-monitor. You do not have to submit the COVID Incident Staff Self Report Form.
    • Phoenix Union will no longer send close contact letters to staff but will continue to notify impacted staff via phone when necessary.
    • Due to the increased spread of COVID-19, staff members should continuously self-monitor and stay home if they have symptoms.

    Symptomatic

    • Remember, if you are symptomatic at work, please go home.
    • Staff who are symptomatic must fill out the COVID Incident Staff Self Report Form. You may return after five calendar days or after providing a negative PCR Test to the campus and the PXU Contact-Tracing Team if less than five calendar days have passed since first symptoms. (e.g., seasonal allergies or other illness)
    • You will not receive a call from the Contact-Tracing Team for being symptomatic without a positive test.

    COVID Positive Symptomatic

    • Staff who test positive for COVID and are symptomatic must fill out the COVID Incident Staff Self Report Form. You may return after five calendar days after onset of symptoms if your symptoms are improving, and you have not had a fever in the past 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.
    • You will receive a call from the Contact-Tracing Team.

    COVID Positive Asymptomatic

    • Staff who test positive for COVID and are asymptomatic must fill out the COVID Incident Staff Self Report Form. You may return after five calendar days from date tested.
    • You will receive a call from the Contact-Tracing Team.

Contact tracing is an essential and proven mitigation strategy. To do so correctly, it must be reported promptly. The above steps have been implemented to quickly identify positive cases while providing more time for our teams to work on mitigation and contact. If you cannot fill out the COVID Incident Staff Self Report Form or need assistance, please contact your immediate supervisor for support.

The Governing Board has approved District paid Leave to individuals who were placed off work due to COVID-related reasons up to a total of eight (8) days during the school year. We ask employees to report their absences to ensure you are paid by Payroll during your time away from work. We will then change your days to approved COVID-QLP days in a timely manner.

PXU will continue to lead the vaccination and testing efforts in the valley. For more information, please visit www.PXU.org/BeHealthy.
