Bell Schedule Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
-
Q: Why did Phoenix Union select a hybrid model bell schedule?
A: Based on survey results, PXU chose a hybrid model to meet the needs of all teachers, students, and the community. Block scheduling provides more time to dive deeper into learning objectives, provide enrichment/intervention opportunities, complete labs, and develop projects; while a traditional bell schedule allows teachers to see students daily, provides consistency, and helps minimize the impact of absences. The intent of the hybrid schedule is to have the best of both experiences.
-
Q: Why are the classes longer this year?
A: Classes are slightly longer this year to ensure that we comply with Arizona Department of Education minute requirements associated with special programs.
-
Q: Why is lunch not included on a student's schedule for campuses with a two-lunch bell schedule?
A: Since most campuses organize lunch by building, Synergy is unable to discern a change is lunch based upon the building. For example, students may have Lunch A Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, but Lunch B (due to a different building) on Thursday. Synergy can only flip with one class.
-
Q: Why is the Late Start Schedule on Monday's?
A: The use of Mondays aligns with iDays and provides consistency with modified days.
-
Q: Will we continue to have iDays next year?
A: Yes, iDays will continue to be a part of our school calendar for the 2023-2024 school year. The structure and format for these days will be slightly adjusted for increased efficiency for student support and adult learning. The iDays for the 2023-2024 school year are located at PXU.org/iDays.
