    Prerequisite: None; Students must have taken Physical Science1 to be enrolled in Physical Science 2.

     

    Meets PUHSD and Arizona Science Standards graduation requirement

     

    Meets laboratory science admission requirement of Arizona universities as an integrated science.

     

    Physical Science 1-2 is a laboratory science course designed to meet Arizona standards for the physical sciences, and to meet the science lab

    requirement for state universities. Coursework includes the study of the basic concepts of chemistry and physics, as well as mathematical

    applications. This laboratory-centered course involves students in building conceptual and mathematical models that fit within a story-line

    framework. Using problem-solving strategies, the scientific method, hands-on lab experiences and cooperative learning strategies, students

    acquire the abilities to do scientific inquiry and gain a knowledge base to support those inquiries.

    Grading System:   

    A = 100-90%                               Classwork = 50%

    B = 89-80%                                  Quiz/Tests = 40%

    C = 79-70%                                 Final Assessment= 10%

    D = 69-60%                                

    F = 59% and below                    

     

    Grades will be turned into the office every 3 weeks. You can also check your grade on StudentVUE. Accommodations and modifications will be included per IEP and 504 plans. StudentVue/ParentVue can be accessed through the Cesar Chavez High School homepage. Students receive their password during advisory class within the first two weeks of school. Parents may obtain their passwords by contacting the registration office.     Title I Program: Academic tutoring and test preparation is available to all students. Additional support for passing classes and graduating on time is the intent of these services.  Support through Title I funding is available in the areas of: math, reading and English.  If interested, please contact the Principal, Mr. Georgia 602-764-4010 or Assistant Principal for Instruction, Mr. Grant 602-764-4011 or Assistant Principal Freshman House 602-764-4142 for additional information.

     

    Make-up Policy: If you were absent you need to get the work you missed and get caught up with notes and assignments. Every day the objective, bell work, classwork and homework is posted on the board. You can come in during advisory to get help or after school (by appointment.) Assignments one day late will be marked 25% off. Assignments two days late will be marked 50% off. Assignments three days late will receive zero credit but should still be turned in.

     

    Attendance:     

    “Absent” is defined as nonattendance in an assigned class or activity for more than one-half of the period. (PUHSD Governing Board Policy J-1561 JHR)

     “Tardy” is defined as not being in the assigned class or activity when the tardy bell has finished ringing. (PUHSD Governing Board Policy J-1561 JHR)

    Student may fail the class for the semester in any course, when reaching a total of 12 excused/ unexcused absences and after school documented interventions have been exhausted. (Student Procedures Handbook pg 22)
