Project Generation Indigenous: Preserving Our Elders' Stories
This program will offer a series of workshops to help prepare our young leaders. Students will gain skills in collecting stories, writing a community-based manuscript, publishing a magazine and distributing it to tribes and young people. After participating in this series of workshops, we believe student leaders will be ready to lead and share stories that will help bridge rich understanding between native and non-native, young and old.Native American culture is poetic and vivid. Students will see this as they hear Native poets and storytellers weave their colorful imagery. As a spider spins a web, students will spin stories to produce a tapestry of patterns and metaphors and only known by their ancestors. Where stories may have been lost, students will be saving a piece of culture for the next Generation Indigenous.
