Course Description:
Biology 1-2 is a laboratory science course designed to meet the Arizona and national standards for the life sciences. It focuses on the life sciences and the manner in which science critical thinking skills are used to study living organisms. Enduring understandings and essential questions center on Heredity, The Cell, Evolution, and Energy and Living Systems.

Materials:
* 1 composition notebook with 100 pages (size 9 ¾ in x 7 ½ in)
* 1 red pen, 1 black or blue pen & 1 highlighter
* At home: tape, glue, colored pencils, scissors
Grading Policy:
o Completion of assignments is necessary for success
o Extra-Credit will raise your grade no more than 2%
o Re-takes for assessments are available and will be on a case by case basis
o Student must show completed work to be eligible for assessment re-take
o Failing students will be placed on a SIM contract at the end of each quarter. Parents will be contacted. o Check grades at https://studentvue.phoenixunion.org
Late / Missed Assignments:
o A missed Test, Quiz or Lab can be made up by the Friday following your absence.
o Due to supply and/or time limitations, some Labs or Activities cannot be made up.
o Alternate work may be assigned on an individual basis.
o Work assigned before an absence will be due the day you return to class.
o Missed work must be completed to be graded. Points will be taken away if work is late.
o Students should attend Advisory to make up work missed during an absence.
Attendance, Tardy, Ditching:
-“Absent” is defined as nonattendance in an assigned class or activity for more than one-half of the period.

After 10 absences you are eligible to be dropped from the class.
“Tardy” is defined as not being in the assigned class or activity when the tardy bell has finished ringing.

Electronic Devices are NOT permitted out in class.
* Backpacks and clothes will be placed on the floor. Desks are to be cleared off of all extraneous materials that are not required for the lesson.

* Punctual: On time, ready to learn.
* Prepared: Binder, agenda, pencil, homework ready.
* Presentable: ID on, food and drink discarded, clothing and accessories per dress code.
* Polite: Hat & sunglasses removed, headphones & music off, phones put away upon entry, use of respectful language.
* Participative: Attend, engage, and display Spartan work ethic.
Title I Program: Academic tutoring and test preparation is available to all students. Additional support for passing classes and graduating on time is the intent of these services. Support through Title I funding is available in the areas of: math, reading and English.
