Welcome

  • Welcome to Phoenix Educator Preparatory! We are an early-college, early-service high school that provides students opportunities to concurrently earn high school credit, early college credit and early industry experiences in these 5 career pathways: Elementary Teaching, High School Teaching, Counseling, Social Work, and Educational Psychology.

In addition to jump-starting their futures with early college and career experiences, Phoenix Educator Preparatory graduates will stay connected to our small, specialty high school during and after college to give and receive tutoring / mentoring supports, gain field experience, and secure early employment. Graduates may also receive financial incentives and residency supports from state, higher education and community partners.

We look forward to seeing the many ways that Phoenix Educator Preparatory alumni will teach, lead, and care in education, healthcare, leadership, community settings and beyond.

Announcement of Recommended Closure of Phoenix Educator Preparatory:

    April 5th, 2024, 11:00am:

It is with a heavy heart that we share this news. Click here to learn more: https://www.pxu.org/EdPrepUpdate

    "Dear PXU Community,

We are sharing this letter to inform you that the Phoenix Union High School District is recommending the closure of Phoenix Educator Preparatory (Ed Prep) at the end of the 2023-2024 school year. The recommendation to the PXU Governing Board to close the school is not made lightly. Educator Prep was opened with the hope of addressing the educator shortage facing our local and national classrooms, and we remain committed to this important initiative.

Why are we recommending the closure of Ed Prep?

    ·         Phoenix Educator Prep’s enrollment remains significantly low, and projections do not show a fiscally sustainable model for the school in the upcoming years.

    ·         Student enrollment is down districtwide which could lead to budget reductions in the coming school years.

    ·         It is important that we give staff and students as much time as possible to make decisions about their school of choice for the 2024-25 school year should the Governing Board vote to close the school.

What will happen to current Ed Prep students if the school closes?

    ·         Classes will continue, as scheduled, for the remainder of this school year, concluding on May 24, 2024.

    ·         If Educator Prep closes, District leadership will work directly with Ed Prep parents and students to provide priority enrollment at other PXU schools, including small schools, if enrollment criteria are met. After review, the student will be admitted to their school of choice for the 2024-2025 school year, or an alternative campus will be discussed.

What would Ed Prep’s closure mean for its staff?

    ·         Staff will have the opportunity to transfer to another PXU campus.

    ·         To provide staff with the opportunity to make the best choice for them, we will follow the District process for placement.

What is the process to close Phoenix Educator Prep?

    ·         At the May 2, 2024, Governing Board meeting, a formal agenda item will appear for discussion regarding the recommended closure of the school, as well as a public hearing for the community to provide feedback regarding this topic. The meeting will take place at approximately 6:00 pm in the Lower Level of the Center for Educational Excellence located at 4502 N. Central Ave. in Phoenix.

    ·         The Governing Board will have a formal vote during the June 6, 2024, regular Governing Board meeting beginning at approximately 6:00 pm in the Lower Level at 4502 N. Central Ave. in Phoenix.

    ·         If the Governing Board decides not to close the school, the teachers, staff, and students will have the opportunity to return to Phoenix Educator Prep.

The Phoenix Union High School District remains committed to the dream that Phoenix Educator Prep was founded upon. We will continue to offer a robust Career & Technical Education pathway for aspiring early-childhood educators while continuing to research ways to expand opportunities for students committed to making a difference in our educational community.

Thank you for your continued trust in PXU."
