Ms. Corona
Hello!
My name is Amanda Corona and I currently teach Inclusion English 5/6 and ELD 3/4 at Cesar Chavez. This is my 3rd year teaching and I am thrilled to be at Chavez! I am a South Phoenix native and love my community. I have a passion for young adults, and find myself loving the work that I do in my classroom, alongside my co-teacher Mrs. Jennifer Plantz.
I received my English degree from the University of Arizona (Cum Laude) and my Master's in Secondary Education at Arizona State University (Summa Cum Laude). I have spent the past 8 years volunteering and working with organizations that involve young people ages 5-18+. I bring experience with me from UArizona working alongside minority populations like BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color), homeless/foster students, immigrant populations and more, preparing them for University life and excelling in their academics while in college. I find this passion and experience has helped me navigate teaching in the classroom, while answering many questions students face in their Junior year.
In my classroom we practice Standards-Based Grading, which my team and I feel really creates an equal and equitable environment for all learners. We emphasize respect, vulnerability, curiosity, and honesty in the classroom.
My hobbies include traveling, recording music, spending time with my dog and loved ones, going to concerts, and doing outreach in the community.
